This is a narrative driven game made to simulate the experience of being a successful detective solving a strange case. An artist has lost her way, and it's your job to figure out what happened. Tentatively, this game will be called ‘The Lost Artist’.
There are two of us working on this game. My name is Alejandro, I’m the narrative designer for this game. The other one is named Martina, she is the 3D artist for this game.
Although our training in game development is unique to our specific disciplines, throughout this game development process we will be learning all the needed programming skills to make this game work.
The 3D art is in early development. But we are proud to show you a turnaround of some of the work in progress.
To give the game narrative depth, we will also create a prologue as a Twine-like Interactive Fiction experience. Currently being drafted in Twine, here is the outline.
Without explaining too much about the narrative, here is a bit of the prose the player will see.
We aren’t the first artists who have had the idea to make a game while simultaneously learning how to make a game. One well-documented inspiration for our game is called ‘Scene Investigators’ by EQ Studios. They have a detailed postmortem available for purchase from their Steam story, and I highly suggest checking it out!
Another really fun game series that has inspired ours is called Frog Detective. It has a nice sense of humor, and it seems like the creators are treating it like a Procedural Drama show, which is something I love. This post is getting long, but remind me later and I’ll talk about the TV show ‘Monk’ and other Procedural Drama shows.
Thanks for hanging out! Talk to you soon.
